custom design process / flow
Initial process
Start with a formal request for quotation of a custom designed part.
Submitting drawings, models or samples
Reviewing your requirements and parameters through sketches, drawings, models and or samples. This information can be received electronically or by fax.
Drawing & 3D model submissions
We can accept 2D & 3D files by e-mail 2D Formats DWG, DXF, PDF 3D neutral CAD formats IGES, STEP
Establishing design criteria
This can vary from a general blank with grind stock on all surfaces to a more sophisticated completely press to size part that is only grounded on the bottom & honed. Discussing your concept and the application of the product and all the geometries of the corresponding components with a design engineer by phone, e-mail or you are welcome to visit our facility and have a face to face meeting.
Establish the primary features and the desired functionality of the product design. Finalizing the design and determining that it is production friendly for manufacturing.
Formal quotation
Prepare and presenting our formal quotation consisting of the tooling cost involved and a piece price in the selected grades.
Receiving the formal purchase order
Receive your formal purchase order will start the process of constructing the required 3D solid model of the agreed design and creating the approval print for the customer to review, sign off on and return.
Building the require tooling
Upon receiving the signed approval print. This will release the model to the die vendor for production of the die set. The manufacturing time usually take approximately 4-6 weeks depending on the complexity of the design.
Test parts
Provide test parts for dimensional inspection and field testing. After inspection and testing have been completed by the customer we require finial product approval before production quantities are produced.
Part production
Release production order to manufacturing to be released on scheduled ship dates.
press to size inserts
Press to size insert for turning, milling, drilling, threading, facing, cut-off, grooving. Blanks rough molded and custom molded inserts, wear products. Ultra-met supplies a wide range of products for all applications in the following industries: metal cutting, metal working, wood working, coal & construction.
design and engineering
From your concepts to completion. Understanding the application of your product and working with you on the design features of your product are a vital first step in designing and building successful carbide parts. From the simplest blade or rectangle to a more sophisticated press to size contour helical topography inserts. Our Engineering Team will evaluate your specific application requirements and recommend a design to achieve your product goals.
